Hi,

We have had similar problems - each and every time it was such that either somebody had opened the file directly on the server (using the admin share d$) or that our backup software was busy trying to do a backup - we use backup exec and it locks the files while it is backing up.

I can see from your question that you have already checked these things. Our server (R5 and R6) is working perfectly otherwise ;o)
